Are Industrial Robots Taking Over Our Jobs?

Are industrial robots going to take over our jobs? This question has been haunting labourers since the Industrial Revolution. From ships to heavy machinery, almost every new invention has made people think that their need will soon seize to exist. But today, machinery is an irreplaceable part of our daily lives and just the thought of having to manage without it seems unrealistic. Every new invention has always met with scepticism in regards to its usefulness, and industrial robots are no different.

What Does the Research Say?

Most researchers are convinced that in less than 20 years, industrial robots will take over all labor jobs. While the other half is convinced that humanity will soon adapt to this like it has to everything else. They are also convinced that like before, many new opportunities will open up that will give people new things to focus on and invest themselves in.

Take agriculture for example. Till the 1900s, 70%-80% of the world’s population worked in the primary sector. That number changed drastically with the advent of machinery. People suddenly had easier ways to do things. That did not mean the need to work in agriculture diminished. People simply found something else they wanted to pursue.

Issues like job displacement and repositioning have been around for a long time. Admittedly, the rate of disruption is faster now than it was in the past, but it can’t be denied that it has always been there. If you have a look at previous unemployment rates, you will notice that they have pretty much remained the same, or declined slightly, no matter what technological advancements came to the fore. Currently, people might feel as if their well deserved jobs are being handed over to machines, but as time passes, they will realize that their skill sets had become obsolete over time and train themselves for new and inventive careers. This, in a nutshell, is how progress is made.

End Thoughts

So to answer the question, yes, industrial robots are going to take over our jobs, but pave the way for alternative careers. There are many industrial fields that can significantly improve by the introduction of industrial robots. If the research is to be believed, then in less than 20 years a lot of people might end up losing their jobs to industrial robots. But is that a bad thing? Absolutely not! Jobs will definitely be displaced but they won’t be eliminated. Humanity will find clever and inventive ways to reposition the labor force.

If you are still reconsidering the decision to automate your production process, then you don’t have to start off the bat by investing heavily in brand new industrial robots. You can start by getting second hand refurbished robots because they cost a lot less and work just as great. To buy them, you can check out Used Robots Trade, home to the best used robots.
